Sorry, I know told many of you that while I'm enjoying sunny Florida, I'd still be finding the time to get in some lengths and get on the bike and the treadmill.
Well first off, these pools (there are 7 of them
) don't have what you could identify as lengths and anyway, the water is so warm it'd be like exercising in the bath
The bike and treadmill? I just can't contemplate any more exertion than turning over on this lounger.
Still got 4 weeks when we get back. That's plenty of time. Isn't it?

7 Sundays
That's all I've got left and I'm on holiday for two of them. All getting a bit close and to be honest I'm a bit worried. Not that the training isn't going well. I ran for 15 mins this morning again. So I'll get half way round the run!! But I haven't done any multi-event training. I haven't leapt glistening with water, trickles running over my manly pecs, from the pool and onto my bike. I haven't struggled off the bike (and it is a struggle, can't get the leg over the saddle without getting cramp - is that a bad sign do you think?) and set off running down the road. In fact when I get off the bike my legs are like jelly and it's all I can do to straighten them to get rid of the cramp (from getting off the bike)!
And.... My wife noticed this morning (don't ask how) big bruises all over my poor posterior! I can only assume from the bike seat (I had a book down my pants in the Board meeting this week, so it can't be that). So I need more padding. This weekend, Sports Direct, £9.99, has to be done. I'll let you know how I get on!!

I Like the Bike
And I think the bike likes me. Did a good steady 10 miles this morning, including some hills. I know we are not exactly talking Le Tour, here, but they were challenging enough for a beginner like me!
One minor problem. The "tri" shorts. I'm sure they are great for competition, but not enough padding for training. I am a little sore and currently sitting on a cushion, but that will pass. Luckily "spanky" Scully is on holiday tomorrow, so I should get away with minimum discomfort at work (sorry Tone!).
So all set for a good gym session tomorrow with an extended time on the treadmill to test the running legs. Getting quite excited about the whole thing now!!

Thank You
I just wanted to take a sec to say a big "THANK YOU" to all of you who have sponsored me so far. I'm genuinely touched and while I shouldn't be surprised at your generosity, I am, so thank you again.
Meanwhile, I thought I'd better update you on the bike ride yesterday. Obviously I didn't die, so that's a plus (for me anyway). It went OK. I rode about 7 miles (according to the little computer on the front) and it felt weird, but OK. Only one minor incident....
I know I've mentioned before that the gears take a little getting used to, paddles by the brake levers. I thought I had it sussed, so I decided to tackle a bit of a hill. Head down, peddling hard, hit the bottom of the hill and started to climb. Immediately it was really hard going. Started shifting through the gears, but it wasn't helping. Stood up out of the saddle to give it some real effort, but it just got slower. Bloody hell, I was thinking, I'm really not as fit as I thought. I was grinding to a halt, starting to wobble, feet stuck in toe clips about to do a comedy slow-motion fall sideways into the hedge - when it struck me - I'd been going up through the gears instead of down (or vice-versa) and just as my momentum was about to be finally turned from forward to downward, I managed somehow in a desperate manoeuvre to shift through half a dozen gears and make it to the top of the hill! Felt good!
This moring was easy after that, just 1km in the pool, no space invader in the shower, just a nice gentle morning.
Laters!!

Bike
Decided that every entry from now on will be the title of a Pink Floyd song! (Maybe in my search for sponsorship I should just title them all "Money"). Was inspired by hearing "See Emily Play" on 6 Music this morning!
My lovely, lovely big brother, has loaned me his "winter training bike". I sat on it on Sunday (and couldn't get off). It's big and frankly a little scary. The gears are very different (little paddly things by the brakes), the seat is slightly less sharp than the blade I shaved with this morning and i have to somehow manipulate my feet into clips while avoiding on-coming traffic. I know cyclists among you will be thinking unkind things like "useless tosser" but it's all new to me! Oh, and my new "tri" shorts arrived yesterday. They are tight!!!!
So here's the deal. Going to go out for a proper "sesh" on the bike in the morning and one of three things will happen..
1. I will die
2. I will get hooked on proper cycling and spend my children's meagre inheritance on cycling gear
3. Nothing much
So that's all for today, except that I had a decent session in the gym this morning, including a good hard 10 mins running on the 'mill. So far, so good!
